As you may have noticed, we are busy building and launching new products faster than ever before. Under our new management we are completely rebuilding all of our products, across all platforms.

This is a huge undertaking, but we are already making good progress, and you’ll be seeing more and more changes & improvements over the coming months.

Communication is core to our service – our raison d’etre is to help guys find and chat to each other. So as the highest priority we are addressing the messaging aspect of our products. Beginning last year with our new mobile optimized website, and followed up with the launch this year of our new iPhone app (and Android very soon), we are aiming to have a consistent experience irrespective of how you choose to sign in to Gaydar.

Because we don’t offer chat rooms on our smartphone applications or mobile web site, and because an increasing number of customers are connecting that way, it no longer made sense to allow people to send chat invitations, since the majority of people receiving them weren’t on a platform where they could accept the invitation anyway. It has led to considerable frustration, so we took the decision to remove this feature from the desktop website.

You can continue to use chat rooms on the website though, just as before, so don’t worry.

Thanks for your patience, and for bearing with us whilst we work on being the #1 dating site for gay men in the world.

Over the coming months Gaydar is moving to a new style of messaging across all its platforms (a process that started last year with the launch of the new mobile optimized website), to one that is more real-time 1:1 chat style (think iMessage, Whatsapp, Skype, etc) than the old email inbox system.

As part of this change we are removing the old ‘read receipts’ from our desktop website, as they are not compatible with the changes being gradually rolled out.

The new system is more instantaneous and in keeping with the way people are increasingly chatting on their phones. We’re sure you’ll find it much easier to use, and we thank you for your patience during the transition.
